International Visual Art Projects
THE 'FURTHER' PORTFOLIO PROJECT
THE 2007 FALUN TRIENNIAL
THE 'PRINTS OF WALES' EXHIBITION
'Printmaking at the Edge' by Richard Noyce has given rise to three international visual arts projects:
THE 'FURTHER' PORTFOLIO PROJECT:
Devised and coordinated by Scott Betz, one of the artists featured in the book, this project has led to the creation of an edition of 40 portfolios of prints by a large number of the book's artists. Producing prints in a wide range of mediums the artists have responded to the theme of 'Further' in relation to their work. The creation of this 'portable exhibition' has led to two exhibitions in winter 2006, at the Salem Fine Arts Centre in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA, and at the Galleria Harmonia in Jyväskylä in Finland.
There have been other exhibitions of the 'Further' portfolio, at galleries in a number of countries, including the Grafikos Galerija in Kaunas, Lithuania (February 2007), The Frans Masereel Centre in Kasterlee, Belgium (May 2007), and the Galerie Hörnan in Falun, Sweden, as part of the Falun Print Triennial in August 2007. The exhibition has also been shown in Vienna, Austria, Winston-Salem (R J Reynolds Gallery), North Carolina, USA, Philadelphia, PA, USA.

THE FALUN TRIENNIAL 2007
In August 2007 the Falun Triennial - Contemporary Print Art will be derived from 'Printmaking at the Edge'. All 45 artists in the book have been invited to participate in this prestigious international festival, and (as of February 2007) 41 of them have agreed to send work. Staged primarily at the Dalarnas Museum in Falun, an historic town three hours' journey north of Stockholm, the Triennial exhibition will also be extended to other venues in the town, including the Magasinet, an historic industrial building.
In conjunction with the Triennial a major exhibition of eight of the artists from the book wil be organised for the Lilja Gallery at the Grafikens Hus, a major centre for contemporary Graphic Art in the picturesque village of Mariefred to the west of Stockholm. This exhibition will run from September 1st 2007 until January 27th 2008.
It is expected that a number of the artists included in the Triennial will visit Falun to participate in a programme of events.
UPDATE:
The Triennial was a great success! 13 artists from around the world turned up for the opening celebrations, which were unlike anything seen in Falun for a long time. The summer weather was suitably good, and an evening beer on the terrace of the Kopparhatten Restaurant was welcomed by many. Anne Seppanen and the staff at the Dalarnas Museum did a wonderful job of installing the exhibition, and deserve congratulations. The reaction of visitors to the exhibition was very good, and the Director of the Swedish Arts Council considered it to be among the best exhibition seen in Sweden.. Not to be outdone, Magasinet pulled off a magnificent exhibition which included 8 artists from 'Printmaking at the Edge' showing woth some vey good local artists. Thank you, Magdalena, for all the work you and your colleagues put in to the exhibition in your challenging and beautiful space. The 'Further' portfolio exhibition was well installed by Modhir Ahmed at the Gallerie Hornung, and a small but well-chosen exhibition of additional work by artists from 'Printmaking at the Edge' was shown at the Gallerie Se. Falun was full of fine work.
The exhibition at Grafikens Hus rounded off this series of exhibitions with a memorable and beautifully installed show. Thanks to Anders Strom and Lars-Goran Malmquist the installation of work by the selected artists in the large space of the Lilja Gallery was very successful. The exhibition was well received and seen by many people during its 4 month run.

A word of thanks to Yoko Kawabata, whose performance at the openings in Magasinet and Grafikens Hus complemented very well the work in the exibitions.

'PRINTS OF WALES' - an exhibition of contemporary Welsh Print Art

To this end Richard Noyce has curated an exhibition of contemporary Welsh print art to be shown at the Belger Arts Centre in Kansas City in spring 2007, in connection with the conference of the Southern Graphics Council (March 21st-25th). The exhibition, which runs from March 2nd to May 5th, features the work of eleven Welsh artists, some well-established and others at the beginning of the careers. This is the first major exhibition of contemporary Welsh Print Art in North America.
The featured artists are:
Andrew Smith (abstract prints on acrylic), Brian Jones (screen prints), Catrin Williams (mixed-media prints based on Cerdd Dant dresses), Christopher Webster (photolithographs and transfer prints), Lou Thornton (mono-type prints), Luci Melegari (mixed media prints), Owain Morgan-Lee (linocut and monoprints) Paul Croft (lithographs), Pete Williams (woodcut prints on Japanese paper), Richard Bevan (Polaroid prints) and Steffan Jones-Hughes (etchings).
Richard Noyce visited Kansas City in March to participate in the Southern Graphics Council conference and gave a paper at the conference about Print Art in Wales. (see Papers page to download the text.)
